Why is this medication prescribed?
Duprost (Generic Avodart) is used to treat an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or ,BPH). This is when the prostate is enlarged in men and causes urinating problems. BPH also known as nodular hyperplasia or benign enlargement of the prostate (BEP) refers to the increase in size of the prostate gland. in middle-aged and elderly men. Untreated BPH may be a contributing factor in prostate cancer. Dutasteride is similar to Finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia and Proscar) with the way that it inhibits DHT.
It works by blocking the production of a natural substance that enlarges the prostate. This shrinks the enlarged prostate over time and brings relief from the symptoms commonly associated with BPH. Duprost (Dutasteride) has also been shown to have beneficial effects on male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). Dutasteride resulted in a greater suppression of DHT than finasteride and the response to dutasteride was less variable than finasteride in longer term-studies.

How should this medicine be used?
It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Take Dutasteride exactly as directed. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water and swallow the capsules whole. Do not chew, split crush or split the capsules.
