Why is this medication prescribed?
Duprost (Generic Avodart) is used to treat an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or ,BPH). This is when the prostate is enlarged in men and causes urinating problems. Duprostteride (the active ingredient in Duprost) is similar to Finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia and Proscar) with the way that it inhibits DHT.
It works by blocking the production of a natural substance that enlarges the prostate. This shrinks the enlarged prostate over time and brings relief from the symptoms commonly associated with BPH. Duprost (Generic Avodart) has also been shown to have beneficial effects on hairloss.

How should this medicine be used?
It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Take Duprost (Generic Avodart) exactly as directed. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water and swallow the capsules whole. Do not chew, split crush or split the capsules.

What side effects can this medication cause?
The most common side effects of Duprost (Generic Avodart) include:

• a decrease in sex drive (libido)

• Do not donate blood until at least 6 months have passed since you stop taking Duprost (Generic Avodart) to prevent pregnant women from receiving Duprost (Generic Avodart) through blood transfusion.
